If the idea of becoming one of Harvest’s Stephen Ministers is of interest to you and you want to take a closer look, consider the following guidelines:
- Gifts – Do you have the gift of mercy or healing? Do you show compassion and give encouragement to those in need?
- Commitment – As a Stephen Minister you will devote time, energy, and resources to the ministry. In return, you will have the opportunity to make a major difference in another person’s life, and grow as a joyous child of God. Are you ready for this high level of commitment?
- Training – You will participate in 50 hours of training before you are commissioned as a Stephen Minister. You will learn about listening, assertiveness, confidentiality, and many other aspects of caregiving. After completing the initial training, there is periodic continuing education. Are you willing and able to participate in this training?
- Dedicated Service – As a Stephen Minister, you will serve wholeheartedly. It involves prayer, thought, consideration, study, and commitment.
- Accountability – You are accountable to God, the congregation, Stephen Leaders, other Stephen Ministers, and your care receiver. You will receive regular support, encouragement, and guidance from regular Small Group Peer Supervision meetings.
- Prayer – Seek God’s guidance as you consider becoming a Stephen Minister. The spiritual foundation you establish will undergird both your decision and your commitment to serve God in this manner.
