The Dream Begins. On Easter Sunday 1998, Harvest offered our first public worship service at Gocio Elementary School in Sarasota. One year later, with about 40 active families, Harvest moved its Sunday morning worship service
to the then-new Lakewood Ranch High School. The following year, a second worship service was added and over the next four years, the congregation grew new ministries, added staff to support children and youth, engaged in mission and service, and began to plan for a future home.
In 2004, the Harvest family moved into our existing facilities. A congregation of 110 families had dreamed big in preparing for our facilities. That group believed they were called to provide a space that would not just take care of them, but would have room for others. Through their commitment and sacrifice, dreams were set in motion. Little did they know just how significant the impact would be on this community. They could not have imagined the large numbers of adults, youth and children—oh yes, all the children—who would stream through the doors of Harvest.
The Dream Continues. Today, there are over 1,000 members that call Harvest their church home - a diverse community of faith, called by Christ to offer hope by graciously welcoming others, passionately developing leaders, and generously serving people around the globe.
Harvest offers two worship services every Sunday morning. The 9:00am service features music with a traditional emphasis while the 10:30am service offers music with a contemporary feel. There is Sunday School at 9:00 and at 10:30 for all ages. For the children, our 10:30 worship celebrations include a "Time Especially for Children" each week, which is followed by Sunday School classes. Loving, experienced childcare is provided every week in our nursery for children age 2 and under. For youth, grades 6th-12th, there is HY5 at 5pm every Sunday. HY5 gatherings include dinner, games, music, small groups, and worship that speaks to the heart in the language of pre-teens and teenagers.
We encourage everyone to come as you are and be yourself. Come and see.
