Please choose a link to the left. September is National Hunger Action Month The Society of St. Andrew has designated September as National Hunger Action Month. The Society of St. Andrew is a grassroots, faith-based, hunger relief nonprofit organization working with all denominations to bridge the hunger gap between 96 billion pounds of food wasted every year in this country and the nearly 40 million Americans who live in poverty. It relies on support from donors, volunteers and farmers as it gleans nutritious excess produce from farmers' fields and orchards after harvest and delivers it to people in need across the United States. Its innovative and cost effective methods enable the Society of St. Andrew to provide food to the hungry for just pennies per serving! That means that for under $100, the Society of St. Andrew can provide a person the USDA recommended requirement of vegetables and fruits for an entire year. (www.endhunger.org)
Harvest will participate in National Hunger Action Month. A prayer calendar is available by clicking on the Fight Hunger tab to the left. Printed versions are available at Hospitality Hubs 1 & 3. The calendar provides daily scripture verses and challenges for further reflection and discernment about justice for all God's people. On September 5th, a Mission Moment focusing on the Society of St. Andrew’s ministry will be presented at both worship services. National Hunger Action Month will culminate on September 26th with a special offering designated for the Society of St. Andrew and an opportunity to bring food for a local food bank. Please put your faith into action as we work together to end the hunger epidemic in the United States!
