Harvest is Going to East Angola

Seven members of the Harvest family will be traveling to Angola, Africa in February, in support of the Methodist Church in Malange, Angola. The team members that will be leaving on February 8, 2010 are Rev. Catherine Fluck Price, Shelby Price, Brian Lacina, Diane McCoy, Barrie Wilkie, Mike Kennedy, and Tony Gowgiel.

While they are in Africa, the team will be working to support the orphanage for girls that the church operates in Malange, and will be working to improve living conditions in the orphanage building. Specific tasks will include installing mosquito nets and window screens; repairing the leaking roof; sharing VBS-type materials with the girls for the their religious education; and providing bunk beds and mattresses for the girls who do not have them, as currently there are three girls who are sleeping on the floor every night. Here’s how you can help this Harvest team to share God’s love in Angola:

  • Donate to the Harvest Mission Fund. The team cannot bring bulky items like bunk beds and mattresses with them, so the team will have to purchase these items in Africa.
  • Donate clothes for the team to bring: new or slightly used clothes and shoes for girls ages 6-19 (most of the girls are around 10 years old).
  • Donate new or slightly used twin-bed size sheets sets.
    Donate toothbrushes, toothpaste, and deordorant.
  • Donate knitting or crocheting needles and yarn, which we can take with us and which the Malange parish women use to make clothing items.
  • Donate beads, jewelry-making kits, which we can take with us and which the girls in the orphanage will use to make jewelry for themselves.
  • Support the Harvest Mission fund-raising dinner on January 23, 2010! There will be a dinner and silent auction…please come to support the team, wish them safe travels, and help us raise money for the projects mentioned above!
